Disappointing but not surprising…  This recent West Health-Gallup Center for Healthcare in America report: “State of the States 2025: Insights on Healthcare in America” ranks all states on cost, quality and access and the U.S. is not going to the head of the class.

I’m in Illinois which comes in at the middle of the pack:

  1. Illinois— Overall: C+ | Cost: D+ | Quality: C+ | Access: C+

Iowa comes first and Alaska in last even though their scores are not much different than each other.

Some of the other less than uplifting metrics within the report are:

  • Across all states, 47% of respondents reported being concerned about affording healthcare in the next year.
  • 20% of Americans reported that someone in their household was unable to pay for their prescriptions within the last 3 months.
  • 25% of Americans reported that not knowing how to find a provider prevented them from receiving care within the past year.
